How to Avoid Dissappointing Holiday Sales

This years sales are estimated to be slower then last year. 85% of shoppers polled said they would be spending less this year then last year on holiday gifts. But all hope is not lost. Here are some tips to have a prosperous holiday season.

Coupons
Year after year there has been about a 60% increase in searches for coupons by retailers. Offering a coupon code is a great way to entice hesitant shoppers into purchasing your products. Coupons are also a great reason to send out newsletters to those newsletter lists that often continue to grow but sit idly.

Free Shipping
Many online retailers are offering free shipping and eBay has seen a huge increase in the past few years of items marked 'Free Shipping'. This is another possible added benefit for consumers. Some eBay vendors have two versions of their product. One version has free shipping and is priced higher. Another version is lower priced with a shipping charge. Some variation of this method can make product pricing seem better to consumers.

Holiday Shipping
Squeeze some last minute sales out of web site viewers by offering a shipping upgrade so products will arrive by Christmas. If you don't already offer overnight shipping now might be the time.

Shipping Guaranteed by Xmas
Consumers are wary of buying online if they don't feel their products will make it in time for holiday gift giving. As the holidays close in you might way to inform consumers when they can purchase items to receive them by Christmas.

Stay in the Holiday Spirit
These tips work year round. Some sites don't put such deep savings but it's not uncommon for holidays to overlap. Your Halloween sale might still be going on by Thanksgiving. Also, since so many are adopting these methods you might want to be the first out there with a pre-Black Friday Sale or something along those lines.
